Shane Pittman & Josh Purvis
‘Searchers’ delves into the profound questions that underpin our existence. What is the purpose of life? What is the meaning of our journey? These are not mere philosophical musings, but the very fabric of ‘Searchers.’ The show’s themes resonate with all, transcending backgrounds and beliefs, making it a compelling watch for everyone.
‘Searchers’ is a show that stands out due to the unique perspective of its creators, Shane Pittman and Josh Purvis. Josh, with his strong background in film and Shane’s extensive experience in paranormal investigations, offers a fresh and intriguing take on reality. Their combined expertise and passion for the subject matter invite you to join their ‘Search’ journey, with the hope of assisting those currently on their own quest.
What sets ‘Searchers’ apart is the relatability of its creators. Josh and Shane are not just characters on the screen but real people with their own stories. Their transparency about their lives and work, struggles and triumphs, has resonated with viewers, turning their show into a phenomenon of engagement. They are not just investigators but fellow ‘searchers’ on a quest for answers, making their journey all the more compelling to watch.
The human element of Josh and Shane’s work is extremely important. Identifying with your audience the way they do can be challenging, even if you’re trying.
Josh and Shane have been friends for a long time, even before Shane was on the Holzer Files. So they’ve talked about the paranormal for a good while. Visually, it’s essential to Josh. How you perceive and engage with the content makes all the difference to him. “It’s a challenge, right? You have really exciting moments happen when you investigate. Sometimes, you can’t just tell someone something, and it comes across as justified as to how exciting it was. So, the challenge in visual storytelling and the reason that we want to do it is to make it look as great as it feels when we experience it. We see these historic places and go and do all of these things, and if we’re scared, being scared is often part of the investigation. You don’t have to fake that; you don’t have to do any of that stuff. It never really changes; things are scary sometimes, and that’s okay. But let’s try to capture our experiences as transparently and genuinely as we can. And that’s kind of been the goal since.”
Shane adds, “Beyond the genuine aspect, we wanted to show people that we are just like them. Just because we are able to go and do some really cool things doesn’t mean we are any better or worse than anybody else. It means we are just like a lot of other searchers out there who are on their path. We are just able to share it with a larger audience, and I am very humbled to do that.”
“Yeah, me too, “ Josh added. Explaining further, Josh says, “Look, before this, I came home after working a full day, just like everyone else. Shane’ll tell you, we are both living pay check to pay check. Ultimately, if it weren’t for the people who support us and value what we do, we wouldn’t be able to do that. That’s just where it’s at.”
Josh shared an interesting perspective on the ebbs and flows of relatable and viral content. “I think people need to understand that there is a difference between investigating and creating content. They’re two things, and while you can do them together and have a valid investigation and film it like we do, you don’t have to do that. The visual portion is how we create; that is our outlet. A part of us also wants us to be able to have the experiences we have because when we’re dead and gone, maybe it’s important, and maybe something that we did matters. In an authentic way.”
Shane added, “ That’s important because if you remove the authenticity, then you remove everything. You know, the way we investigated ten years ago is a drastic difference from the way we investigate now. So what if the people who are watching currently are at that level of their ‘search’ of where we were ten years ago?”
Josh explained, “The stuff we are doing to date versus what we did ten years ago is night and day! I remember when the K2 was amazing, dude. Now it’s like small change. We communicate now with the paranormal more exploratively, almost with your mind.”
Sharing experiences with Shane and Josh about how the technology in the paranormal has taken such a shift in either helping or hindering investigations, Shane added, “It just goes to show how everything is connected. It gets woo-woo a little bit, but we are all connected; everything is connected. When something happened four years ago, you get a message, and now it comes to fruition; that proves that connection. That is why it drives Josh and I to do what we do. There are always more questions than there are answers; that’s why we keep searching.”
Shane and Josh are so easy to talk and relate to that we got caught up in side discussions, apart from the interview, and dug into our own theories and pasts and how everything is relatable to what we do now. Josh added, “Even with all the cases we’ve done on Searchers, the communications we’ve had if there one thing we’ve pulled through, that is that the paranormal is way bigger than just somebody that died and is stuck here. It’s way more than that. Our only answer is that you can’t wrap it up in a nice little box.”
I spoke with Shane and Josh about life, choices, conflicts, and resolutions, and they gave me their full attention, only furthering my initial impression of these two awesome people. Shane and Josh are one of us; they are regular guys who do regular guy stuff and live regular lives. I can relate to them on a human level, and I am thankful that I was able to speak to them about their search and share mine with them as well.
You can catch Shane and Josh in April at a Soul Circle Event in Virginia City at Washoe-Con 2024. Also, make sure you check out their website, SearchersBelieve.com.

Josh Purvis
For more than a decade, Josh Purvis has been deeply involved in studying unexplained phenomena. His first brush with the paranormal happened at an old house in Savannah, Georgia, known as the Sorrell-Weed house. During a guided tour with his wife, they snapped some pictures in the house’s basement. Later, as they were heading home, they found something unexpected in one of their photos – the image of a woman who wasn’t there when they took the picture. This incident was a turning point for Josh, sparking a passion that’s kept him hooked ever since.
From then on, Josh has explored all across the southeast, seeking evidence of ghosts, aliens, and even the legendary Bigfoot. He also brings a strong background in filmmaking to his work, adding a creative touch to his paranormal investigations.
His path eventually led him to meet Shane Pittman. Over ten years ago, they came up with the idea for ‘Searchers’, a project dedicated to exploring and understanding the unexplained. The rest, as they say, is history – a story of two friends on an exciting journey into the unknown.
